ZAMBOANGA SiKat struck from afar and trounced poor-shooting Bacolod, 87-63, on Thursday to stay within sight of the MPBL 2025 season leaders at the Ynares Arena 2 Montalban in Rizal Province.
The Zamboanguenos hit 15 triples that pushed them to their sixth win against two losses in the round-robin elimination phase, as the Tubo Slashers could only convert 3 of 22 attempts.
Roi Sumang shone for Zamboanga with 21 points, spiked by five triples, three assists and two steals, followed by homegrown Jul-Ashri Ignacio with 15 points, all from rainbow territory, six rebounds and three assists.
Bacolod, which tumbled to 1-3, got 17 points and 4 rebounds from Mark Ray Dobouzet and 14 points and six rebounds from Aldave Canoy.
The Tubo Slashers were further hampered by 22 turnovers against only 13 for the Zamboanguenos, who trail the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards (7-0), San Juan Knights (5-0), Abra Weavers (6-1), Quezon Huskers (6-1), Pangasinan Heatwaves (6-1) and the Pampanga Giant Lanterns (6-1) in the standings.
The MPBL visits the Calasiao Sports Complex on Friday, April 25, with games pitting Davao against Pasig at 4 p.m., Abra against Cebu at 6 p.m., and Nueva Ecija against host Pangasinan at 8 p.m.
