PAMBOY Raymundo was unconscious from downtown as Binan Tatak Gel stayed in step with the South Division leaders after its 75-66 win over Davao Occidental in Season 6 of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) last Wednesday at the Alonte Sports Arena.
Raymundo conspired with Jeric Pido in hitting some of the biggest shots for Binan as they closed out the game on a 14-3 run to create separation for good.
Raymundo hit five threes enroute to 21 points alongside three assists and three steals while Marc Pingris added 10 points and eight rebounds for Binan who improved to 16-8, moving just half a game behind third seed Batangas Tanduay (17-8) who lost a close one to Nueva Ecija in the first game of the triple header.
The Rice Vanguards leaned on its tight defense in the second half to subdue the Rum Masters 66-58, and improved to 19-3 – staying in step with North Division leaders Pampanga and San Juan.
They held the Rum Masters to just a total of 27 points in the second half, while John Wilson took over the offensive load in that stretch by scoring all of his 13 points in the final 20 minutes of action.
Robby Celiz added 12 points while Will McAloney chipped in 10 points, seven boards, three steals and two blocks.
Levi Hernandez led Batangas with 15.
The opening game saw the Paranaque Patriots flaunt their sharpest form yet in a 110-83 thrashing of the Negros Muscovados.
John Ubuda ruled the boards enrout to a triple-double with 20 rebounds, 10 points and 10 assists, while Joshua Gallano led the way in scoring for the Patriots with 19 points and 10 boards.
The MPBL goes to the Paco Arena in Manila on Thursday with games pitting Mindoro against Muntinlupa at 4 p.m., Iloilo against Pangasinan at 6 p.m. and Valenzuela against Quezon City at 8 p.m.
