NUEVA Ecija stayed hot on Abra’s heels for the top spot in the MPBL 2025 after a 94-38 blowout of Quezon City on Monday at the Batangas City Coliseum.
The Rice Vanguards cruised to their 25th win against just two losses to tie the San Juan Knights and inch closer to the 24-1 Weavers for the best record in the league.
The three powerhouses are assured of the top three spots and the homecourt advantage in the North playoffs.
Leading by just three, 29-26, midway through the second quarter – the Rice Vanguards ended the quarter with a 21-3 run before holding Galeries Taipan to a season low five points in the third in the blowout win.
Byron Villarias led the way with 15 points and two steals, Jammer Jamito chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds while Jaycee Marcelino added 11 points and five assists as 14 of the 15 Rice Vanguards scored in the blowout.
Nino Ibanez led the woeful Galeries Taipan with nine points.
The MPBL returns to the Paco Arena on Tuesday, with games pitting Mindoro against Pangasinan at 4 p.m., Zamboanga against Binan at 6 p.m., and Manila against Valenzuela at 8 p.m.
