CALOOCAN beat Bacolod, 74-68, on Wednesday and climbed up the MPBL 2025 Season leaderboard at the Ynares Center Montalban in Rizal Province.
Despite their edge in firepower, the Batang Kankaloo couldn't break away from the Tubo Slashers, leading by nine points at the most in posting their seventh win against four losses in the round-robin elimination phase of the 30-team tournament.
Tubo Slashers put up fight
Joco Tayongtong posted 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals to clinch Best Player honors over Paul Sanga, who tallied 11 points and 3 rebounds, and Jeff Manday with 10 points and 3 rebounds.
The Tubo Slashers put up a fight, even leading 19-13, before yielding the half at 30-35, eventually suffering their sixth loss against two victories.
Bacolod got 18 points plus 4 rebounds from homegrown John Lemuel Pastias, and 14 points plus 8 rebounds from Miles Canal, also a homegrown talent.
Although the Tubo Slashers shot better than the Batang Kankaloo, making 22 of 53 field goal attempts, they were hounded by 22 turnovers that netted 29 points for Caloocan. In contrast, Bacolod could only produce 8 points from Caloocan's 10 turnovers.
The MPBL goes to the Alonte Sports Arena on Thursday with games pitting Muntinlupa against Paranaque at 4 p.m., Gensan against Davao at 6 p.m., and host Binan against Basilan at 8 p.m.
