WITH a crowded backcourt at Converge, JL Delos Santos decided to opt out of the team and take his act elsewhere.

The 26-year-old point guard no longer renewed his contract with the FiberXers and is now with the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys in the coming Season 8 of the MPBL.

Delos Santos was a second-round pick of Converge in the PBA Season 48 draft at No. 19 overall after coming out of Jose Rizal University and had been primarily a backup guard in the two years he played with the franchise.

But with the arrival of rookie Juan Gomez De Liano and MJ Garcia, along with regulars Alec Stockton and Schonny Winston – later traded for another guard in Kurt Reyson – Delos Santos’ minutes went down that when his contract with the squad expired, he decided not to sign a new deal.

“For self-improvement lang,” he said about his decision to move on during the contract signing of the partnership between the MPBL and SportsPlus.

To be fair to Converge, the team offered Delos Santos a new contract.

He described the offer as good as his initial contract with Converge, but kept his option of signing with another team in another league.
