Dave Ildefonso the hands-down choice as MVP of MPBL season

DAVE Ildefonso, a major reason why the Abra Weavers are the North Division champions, ran away with the MPBL 2025 Season MVP award on Tuesday at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.

The versatile 6-foot-4 guard forward out of Ateneo who was drafted by NorthPort in yhe PBA draft before his rights were traded to Converge, posted averages of 17.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals in his rookie season with the Weavers.

Ildefonso, who also played in the KBL (Korean Basketball League) joined the ranks of 2018 MVP Gab Banal, then with Bacoor and now with Quezon Province; 2019 MVP John Wilson, then with Gensan and now with Nueva Ecija, 2022 MVP JC Marcelino, then with Zamboanga; and 2023-2024 MVP Justine Baltazar of Pampanga.

Chosen with the son of two-time PBA MVP Danny Ildefonso for the First Team were LJ Gonzales of Quezon Province, Kenny Rocacurva of Binan Tatak Gel, Vic Manuel of Pangasinan, and Christian Fajarito of Pasay.

The All-MPBL Second Team is composed of Orlan Wamar of San Juan, JC Marcelino, Levi Hernandez of Batangas City Tanduay, Larry Muyang of Pampanga, and Eric Camson of Rizal Xentromall.

    Raven Gonzales, Ildefonso's 6-foot-8 teammate at Abra, was named Rookie of the Year (Ildefonso is no longer considered a rookie after his Korea stint), while Warlo Batac of Pasig was chosen as Most Improved Player.

    Other awardees were Prince Casin of Caloocan as Homegrown Player of the Year, and Jun Bonsubre of Caloocan as Defensive Player of the Year. Nikko Panganiban of San Juan was given the Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year. Mayor Gel Alonte of Binan was chosen as Executive of the Year.
