This after the Basilan Starhorse secured the commitment of the seven-foot former Barangay Ginebra slotman, making him eligible to play as the team looks to gain momentum heading to the MPBL playoffs.

Basilan team co-owner Jackson Chua told SPIN.ph that Slaughter was one of two key recruits they set out to sign to pump new life into an 8-9 win-loss campaign that put the team in the middle of the pack.
Chua bared that they already gave up on a bid to acquire Mikey Williams, who was demanding a $30,000 monthly pay.
Slaughter was personally handpicked by Sumipsip, Basilan Mayor and team owner Jhulz Hataman, a close friend of Chua who also negotiated the former Japan B.League import's terms.
“Nag-struggle yung team and we hope Greg will help us get the streak we needed,” said Chua.
“We have the pieces kaya lang system ang problema namin and the paint. Siguro naman andyan na si Greg, solve na yung isa. The system, need lang makapag-jell agad ng mga bagong players with our pioneer core,” added the Red Dynasty Restaurant president.

Basilan is laden with former PBA stars including former MVP Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot of the famed San Miguel Death 5 and former Rain or Shine forward Jervy Cruz.
Slaughter will not have a problem joining Basilan as he already played in the MPBL last season with the Manila SV Batang Sampaloc, a requirement for new players who are not in the team line-up submitted prior to the start of the season.
