THE newly crowned MPBL champions Abra Solid North Weavers are coming up with their own version of the Chicago Bulls’ “The Last Dance”.
Abra team owner Rep. JB Bernos told SPIN.ph that they are releasing a six-part short film about the formation and development, struggles and triumphs of the Weavers, who recorded an impressive 28-1 win-loss record in the eliminations before sweeping all of their 10 playoffs games including the finals versus Quezon Huskers.
“First, we want to show the efforts and sacrifices of our players and team. We want to show the fans of Abra as well as Philippine basketball how we were able to build this team to what it is,” said Bernos. “And there is no better way to do that than to come up with a well-produced series.”

'Weaving the Win' is a six-part series uploaded on the Abra Weavers Facebook page daily from January 15 to 18 at 11 in the morning.
The documentary is presented in partnership between Congressman Bernos and Burlington Industries Philippines Inc. and produced by Prime Edge Marketing Consultancy,
“Gusto kasi naming gawin yung ginagawa sa NBA at iba pang elite leagues sa mundo na mayroong tribute video sa team to fully bring the players and the coaches closer to the fans,” said Bernos.
“Saka mainam rin na nakikita ng tao ano ang team sa likod ng mga laro. Paano sila sa ensayo at sa kanilang pagpapanatiling sharp ang kundisyon ng kanilang mga katawan. That way, mai-inspire lalo yung mga kabataan na tularan ang kanilang dedikasyon,” he said.

Abra is only the sixth team in the eight-year old MPBL to win a championship after the Batangas City Athletics, Go for Gold San Juan Knights, Davao Occidental Tigers, Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards and two-peat winner Pampanga Giant Lanterns.
Meanwhile, Bernos bared that they will do everything to retain their championship roster, although he admits, filling the void left by big man Geo Chiu will be hard.
“Malaking bagay yung iniwan ni Geo but it is what it is. We’re happy for him and proud din ang Abra kasi this year’s top overall pick in the PBA is from our team. That in itself is an honor for us,” he said.
“Atleast, it mirrors the basketball credibility that Abra has built in just two years of existence,” added the husband of Solid North Partylist Rep. Ching Bernos.
Asked if what happens to other Abra stars like Dave Ildefonso, Encho Serrano, Marwin Taywan and this year’s rookie picks CJ Austria (Titan Ultra) and Jason Brickman (Meralco), Bernos said they will make an announcement soon.
