PLANS to launch an amateur one-on-one basketball are on the draft table. The question is when.
Amid the coronavirus crisis, an MPBL team owner and coach is working on plans to put up Isolation Basketball Championship One-On-One Tournament.
The novel basketball event looks to set up weight divisions, with champions to be crowned in each division.
“Madalas kasing sabihin kapag One-On-One, malaking factor yung height,” said Justin Tan, founder of the Isolation Basketball Championship.
“Pero what people forget was weight is as equally important kasi kung ang kalaban mo matangkad nga pero kulang sa weight, babangganin lang siya ng madali ng kalaban niya,” added Tan, also team owner and head coach of the Mindoro Tamaraws in the MPBL.
The player qualifications — the tournament is open to players 18 years old and above, scoring rules and tournament format have been set. Prize money is being worked out, and organizers are planning to invite players from the US, Europe and Asian countries.
