DAVAO Occidental stormed ahead early and coasted to a 123-107 victory over Bicolandia on Thursday in Season 6 of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) at the Kamalig Gym in Orion, Bataan.
Powered by Mark Tallo, Kurt Lojera and Jansher Salubre, the Tigers erected a 73-50 spread by the half, and proceeded to notch their 14th win against 6 losses entering the tail end of the elimination round phase.
Tallo, formerly the country's top 3x3 player, posted 24 points, four assists and three rebounds to earn best player honors over Lojera and Salubre, w/ho both tallied 17 points for the 2021 MPBL champions.
Darriel Bayla chipped in 16 points and six rebounds for coach Manu Inigo while Kieth Agovida added 11 points and four boards.
Lord Casajeros had a huge game for the Oragons with 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while Shaq Alanes chipped in 23 points and nine assists but it wasn’t enough for Bicol as they slid to 2-18.
The MPBL returns to the University of Bangued Gymnasium in Abra on Saturday with games pitting Quezon Province against Mindoro at 4 p.m., Pangasinan against South Cotabato at 6 p.m., and Iloilo against Abra at 8 p.m.
