MPBL: Abra Weavers, Muntinlupa Cagers whip struggling foes

Weavers, Cagers heap more misery on MPBL minnows

MUNTINLUPA subdued Bicolandia, 60-55, while Abra pounded undermanned Bacolod, 115-64, on Monday in the MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball league) Sixth Season at the Orion Sports Center in Bataan.

The Muntinlupa Cagers banked on Alfred Reyes and Joshua Guiab to thwart the Oragons' repeated assaults and notch their third win against eight losses in the round-robin elimination phase of the 29-team tournament.

Reyes posted 14 points, 3 assists and 2 steals while Guiab tallied 12 points and 8 rebounds for Muntinlupa, which was unable to pull away and led by 26-35 at the most.

Breeze for Weavers

Bicolandia absorbed its 11th straight defeat and hogged the cellar with Imus Agimat.

Ralph Jeffrey Deles was the lone bright spot for the Oragons with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

Pitted against the lowly Bacolenos, the Abra Weavers used all their 15 players to wear down their six-man rivals en route to their third straight win and a 6-5 card that pushed them to the upper half of the standings.

    Wendelino Comboy led Abra with 23 points, spiced by an impressive seven triples out of eight attempts. John Lloyd Clemente also delivered for the Weavers with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and so did Jeepy Faundo with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

    Mark Tallo settled for 6 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists while Reeve Ugsang notched 9 points and 9 rebounds for Abra, which saw all its 15 players score in the coast-to-coast victory.

    Bacolenos fade

    The Bacolenos, hounded by financial woes, tumbled to 1-10. Danny Marilao wound up with 18 points, Jamel Ramos 13, Nichole John Ubalde 12 and Salvador Galit 10 for Bacolod, which trailed by as far as 60-113.

    The MPBL returns to the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Tuesday with games pitting Marikina against Nueva Ecija at 4 p.m., Pasay against Bulacan at 6 p.m. and Valenzuela against San Juan at 8 p.m.
