WITH star combo guard Jeff Viernes not suiting up for Batangas City in its game against Quezon City, somebody had to step up and Lester Alvarez gladly answered the call.
Alvarez stuffed the stat sheet in the Athletics' 105-80 victory over the Capitals, falling two rebounds shy of a triple-double with 23 points, 10 assists and eight boards.
Alvarez stepped up for the Athletics with Viernes currently in Malaysia as the national team’s skills coach. Batangas City management has asked the former St. Clare standout to focus on his stint abroad.
The guard from Adamson also made five of his seven three-point attempts and converted all of his eight freebies.
Before tonight's game, he was only averaging 8.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.3 dimes per outing.
Being the floor general, Alvarez also noticed the improving chemistry of the team resulting in 32 assists compared to Quezon City's 17.
Justin Valencia
