THE Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) may be in search of a new home following the House of Representatives' decision to deny ABS-CBN a new franchise.
MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes is set to meet with founder and chief executive officer Sen. Manny Pacquiao to discuss on the future of the regional league's broadcast partner.
"Paguusapan muna namin with our CEO and founder Sen. Manny Pacquiao kung ano ang next plan namin regarding sa TV," he told Spin.ph.
Compared to the other leagues being shown on ABS-CBN, the MPBL is in a better position because of its block timing deal with ABS-CBN Sports+Action (UHF channel 23).
It also has its own television production crew.
Duremdes added that the MPBL's current partnership deal with the beleaguered television giant expired last March.
ABS-CBN has served as the MPBL's home since its launch in 2018 and has broadcasted the entirety of its inaugural Rajah Cup and the past Datu Cup.
The Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Cup has been stalled in the semifinals, with the deciding Game Three of the North Division Finals between San Juan Knights-Go for Gold and Makati Super Crunch as well as the South Division Finals between Davao Occidental Tigers-Cocolife and Basilan Steel-Jumbo Plastic left unplayed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
