CHRIS Dumapig posted a double-double to power South Cotabato past Bacolod, 90-84, for win no. 13 in Season 6 of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Dumapig finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors took a 52-37 lead early and never looked back as they improved to 13-5 win the round robin phase of the 29-team tournament.
Enzo Joson also had a solid game with 15 points and seven boards, while Larry Rodriguez added 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Kyle Tolentino finished with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Bacolod continued its freefall, dropping to 1-17 despite the 26 points from Louie Vigil and the near triple-double effort of Yvan Ludovice who finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
Apart from winning the board battle, 44-37, the Warriors shot an impressive 94.1 percent from the charity stripe, sinking 16 of 17 attempts.
Earlier, the Marikina Shoemasters battered the Bicolandia Oragons, 120-93, to improve to 5-12 and keep their slim playoff chances.
Eric Joseph Pili finished with 28 points whileMiguel Ives Corteza added 23 as the Shoemasters led by as many as 29, 116-87, and relegated Bicolandia as they dropped to 2-16.
Ahron Estacio, Jude Codinera and Mel Mabigat added 12 apiece for Marikina.
John Edcel Rojas finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Cyrus Llanera added 21 for Bicol in the loss.
The MPBL returns to the Alonte Sports Arena on Friday, July 12, with a triple bill pitting Bulacan against Imus at 4 p.m., Zamboanga against Iloilo at 6 p.m., and Bataan against Binan at 8 p.m.
