SJ Moore starts to get his feet wet at College of St. Benilde and the same goes as well for a couple of La Salle recruits, as they see action in the coming Pinoyliga Next Man cUP later this month.
The Blazers recently acquired the high-flying, 6-foot-2 guard after transferring from University of Santo Tomas.
Moore spent his freshman year at Espana, but saw little playing time under coach Pido Jarencio with the Growling Tigers.
After getting his release from the Dominican school, the Blazers nabbed the rights to the former juniors standout from Arellano.
Ironically, Benilde was actually among the number of college programs who went after Moore following his stint with the Braves, but he opted to take his act to UST.
Ultimately, though, the Blazers got their man and Moore will eligible to suit up in green-and-white in NCAA Season 101 after serving one-year residency.
But for now, he’ll play his first competitive tournament with Benilde in the third edition of the collegiate tournament, featuring the Team B of different collegiate schools.
Taft to watch
The Green Archers will then be bolstered by the addition of top transferees Jacob Cortez, Kean Baclaan, Luis Pablo, and Mason Amos.
Cortez helped San Beda win the NCAA men’s basketball title in Season 99, while Baclaan, Pablo, and Amos all suited up in the UAAP for National University, the University of the Philippines, and Ateneo, respectively.
Benilde and La Salle battled in the finals of the Next Man Cup Season 2, with the Blazers of coach Charles Tiu besting the Green Archers in the winner-take-all championship match.
Aside from the Taft teams, also in the mix are the Red Lions who have stacked their roster with Filipino-American recruits and US NCAA Division 2 players Jimmy Reyes, Janti Miller, and Xavier Gantles.
The Blue Eagles, meanwhile, will test their own prized recruit in Kymani Ladi.
The Next Man cUP is a brain child of Pinoyliga tournament director Benny Benitez, who also heads the league organizing team Pride Edge Marketing.
