MALL of Asia Arena will serve as the official venue for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games basketball competitions.
Philippine SEA Games Organising Committee (Phisgoc) head Ramon "Tats" Suzara made the announcement on Wednesday.
Suzara, representing the Phisgoc, and the Mall of Asia Arena management, led by SM Lifestyle COO Herman Medina-Cue sealed the deal in a meeting on Wednesday morning to make the booking possible.
"It's very fruitful, very successful, and confirmed," said Suzara.
"One big thing has been resolved today."
Concerns were raised when the 5,500-seater Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan was announced as the main venue for basketball instead of the 20,000-seater Mall of Asia Arena, but organizers were able to work things out.
"They've been supporting our cause and they've been holding world class events here. For me, they're the only world class venue in the Philippines," Suzara said.
"Everyone is happy that basketball, Gilas will be playing here at Mall of Asia Arena."
Filoil Flying V Centre, meanwhile, will host the 3x3 basketball competitions as Suzara remained open for possible inclusion of other venues in the SEA Games calendar, particularly Smart Araneta Coliseum.
"We're open, but we still need to discuss those," he said.
