Kiefer Ravena leads Mighty to OT win over Foton on last-gasp, 28-foot game winner

    Apr 18, 2016
Kiefer Ravena led all scorers with 19 points, none more important than the triple he made at the buzzer.

KIEFER Ravena sank a triple with four tenths of a second left to lift Mighty Sports to a thrilling 84-83 overtime win over upset-hungry Foton in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.

The top pro prospect received a pass and quickly turned before letting loose a 28-footer and sank the basket at the buzzer, sending the predominantly Mighty Sports crowd into a frenzy.

Ravena’s teammate quickly mobbed their new hero in celebration, helping Mighty Sports to its eighth win in nine games and keeping a tight grip at the top spot.

“Ang sama ng nilaro namin, but the final score is the most important thing,” he said.

“This is probably one of my biggest game-winners. Swerte na-shoot. Sana pang-bawi ito sa missed free throw last time,” added Ravena, referring to the crucial charity he muffed that led to Mighty's only loss in the tournament over the weekend.

It was the fifth loss in nine games for Foton, which blew its chance of notching its third straight win in this tournament supported by Hahn Manila, Gerry’s Grill, During’s Barbeque and Restaurant, LGR, Spalding and Ambucore.

Ravena’s game-winning bucket overshadowed SCTEX’s 78-65 win over Sta. Lucia Realty to snap its three-game losing skid.

Biyaheng SCTEX has improved its win-loss record to 4-4 while dealing the Realtors their third straight loss. Sta. Lucia also dropped to 4-5 in a tie for fifth to sixth places with Foton.

Despite their depleted line-up, the Toplander controlled the game most of the way, leading by as many as 18 points, 36-18. They were still in control in overtime, scoring the first six points for a 77-71 lead, but a spate of turnovers allowed Mighty to come back and snatch the win, courtesy of that Ravena's dagger trey.
