Mighty Sports bucks absence of Ravena and TY Tang, stays unbeaten in PCBL

    Apr 2, 2016
Bright Akhuetie had 19 points and 19 boards in another dominant performance for Mighty.

MIGHTY Sports hardly missed the services of star players Kiefer Ravena and ex-pro TY Tang as it blasted Foton, 104-89, for its fifth straight win in as many games in the 2016 PCBL Chairman’s Cup.

Gab Banal finished with 22 points and nine rebounds while Nigerian Bright Akhuetie contributed 19 points and 19 boards as the league’s newest powerhouse squad moved a win away from completing a sweep of the first round of the eliminations.

Ravena, a two-time UAAP MVP, was still in the US for his personal training in Las Vegas while Tang, a former Rain or Shine mainstay, attended to some pressing commitment.

Foton struggled to respond when Mighty Sports stepped on the gas after the break despite a combined 36 points from Cedrick Ablaza and Levi Hernandez, and forward Ed Rivera’s 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Mac Montilla knocked down eight of his 12 markers in a decisive run in the third, spiked by a pair of triples, while teaming up with Banal and Akhuetie as Mighty zoomed to a67-58 lead.

Adrian Celada knocked in nine of his 11 markers in the fourth quarter to help Mighty Sports post its biggest lead at 90-73, virtually sealing the deal with still more than four minutes to play.

In the first game, Sta. Lucia bounced back strong from a loss by giving Supremo Lex a sound beating, 80-67, at the Marikina Sports Center.

It was the third win in five games for the Realtors, putting them in second place with a 3-2 record, the same card being held by Jumbo Plastic, which was defeated by Sta. Lucia in the early phase of the elimination round of the tournament supported by LGR, Spalding, Hahn Manila, Ambucore, During Barbeque and Restaurant and Gerry’s Grill.
