SALE Morocco rained down threes in the final three minutes of the game as it shocked Mighty Sports, 83-75, in the opener of the Dubai International Basketball Tournanent Friday night (Saturday PH time) in Dubai.
Brandon Freeman scored 11 in a blistering 14-2 rally by Sale to create separation from the Filipinos for good after keeping them at bay for most parts of the game.
Trailing 67-66, Sale fired four threes in a span of just a minute and a half to take a commanding 80-69 lead with 1:04 left in the game.
Freeman finished with a game high 28 points on 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc alongside two steals and two blocked shots.
Familiarity and chemistry turned out to be an issue early on for Mighty as it found itself trailing, 17-7, early on. But the team slowly regained its footing behind the hot hands of ex-Ginebra import Justin Brownlee, who paced Mighty with 27 markers.
But that comeback was never meant to be for Mighty as the uprising was halted after import Hasheem Thabeet fouled out midway through the fourth, stopping any sort of momentum that Mighty built in the comeback.
Kiefer Ravena finished with 11 points and four assists, while Marcus Douthit added eight points and 12 boards.
Thabeet's debut left a lot to be desired as he just finished with five points and three blocks in 16 foul-plagued minutes.
