MICHAEL Juico scored a league record 35 points to power Pampanga to a 82-79 victory over erstwhile unbeaten Parañaque on Monday in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Angeles University Foundation Arena.

Juico, who played for GlobalPort in the PBA before joining the Pampanga Lanterns days before the start of the new MPBL season, beat the record of 33 set by Yves Sazon in Marikina’s opening-night win over General Santos City.

Juneric Baloria came up with a huge game against his former team, delivering 20 points for the Lanterns.

Also playing solid on both ends of the court was Marlon Gomez, posting a double-double of 11 points and 12 boards.

It was a big win for Lanterns in front of the home crowd, including Talk N Text star Jayson Castro.

Zamboanga outlasted Marikina, 87-80, in the other game on Monday, with ex-pro Reed Juntilla scoring 19 points for the Valientes’ second win in four games.
