MEDICAL Depot handed San Juan its first loss, 69-67, on Wednesday in the Filbasket Subic Championship at the Subic Bay Gymnasium.
Dave Moralde scored 19 points including the marginal basket with 42.8 seconds left and Medical Depot's defense stood strong in the endgame to seal the team's second in four outings.
The Knights fell to their first loss after a 3-0 start in Rhenz Abando's tournament debut. Abando, however, only played five minutes and committed a turnover.
Simon Camacho had another impressive all-around game spiked by 19 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and three blocks for Medical Depot.
Alvin Abundo scored 15 points for San Juan.
Burlington EOG also won a close match against MTrans Buracai De Laiya-Batangas City Tanduay Athletics, 86-83.
Ronnie Matias and James Castro scored the last four points of the game to steal the win for the Athletics.
Burlington now holds a 2-2 win-loss record in a tie with MTrans, which slipped to its second straight loss.
Davao Occidental, meanwhile, claimed its third win in four outings after an 82-69 win over FSD Makati Army, claiming a share of the lead with San Juan and AICC.
Gab Dagangon and Chris Lalata had 10 points apiece for the Tigers. Jay Motol had 13 points for Army, which dropped to 1-3.
The games continue on Thursday with Nueva Ecija against Muntinlupa at 3:30 p.m., AICC Manila against 7A Primus at 5:40 p.m., and Davao Occidental against Pasig Sta. Lucia at 7:50 p.m.
