MANILA Central University finally barged into the win column even as Centro Escolar University and reigning titlist Olivarez College continued their hot streak in the PGFlex-UCAL Season 8 Basketball Tournament at the Paco Arena.
With Seanne Devon General leading MCU’s well-balanced attack, the Supremos of Caloocan outlasted Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas, 97-90, to end a four-game losing run to start off their campaign.
Salute to a General
In his best game so far, General completed a double-double with 17 points – spiked by two triples – and 13 boards plus four assists.
He got ample support from Darrel Garcia, Daniel Santelices and RJ Tadeo, who chipped in 15,14 and 12 points, respectively, most of them came at the height of PCU-D’s desperate attempt to turn things around.
The loss snapped PCU-D’s three-game winning run as it fell to 3-2 (win-loss).
Meantime, the CEU Scorpions streaked to their 6th win after edging past the Diliman College Blue Dragons, while the Olivarez Sea Lions tripped Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, 63-60, to stay second with a 5-0 record.

Immaculada Concepcion College improved to 2-4 with a 110-99 win over University of Batangas in the event backed by Akari, Advance Solutions Inc., Smart Sports, Spalding, Quintana Sports, Crane Faucet, Hapee Toothpaste, CafeFrance, Vital, TopFlite Academy, Maruyama, and Gerry’s Grill, Mighty Bond, and Undfitd Sportswear.
Christ Jay Singson and Kurt Russel Miranda led CEU in scoring with similar 13 points, but it was Abraham Apugi Takpiny who struck hardest in the crunch.
Takpiny scored four his 8 points in the last 28 seconds, including a driving layup that put CEU back on top again and for good, 75-74.
Hakin Njiasse and Hanz Maycong starred anew for the Sea Lions by posting 16 and 12 points, respectively.
