MARLOU Aquino and son Matthew are pleased to be able to continue to play together in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
The younger Aquino says it's a much different feeling sharing the floor with his father, from just hearing his voice from the sidelines.
"Malaking bagay na kakampi ko yung tatay ko kasi iba yung nako-coach niya ko from the sidelines tapos iba yung nasa loob mismo ng court. Iba yung drive na nakukuha ko sa kanya kapag kasabay ko siya maglaro," the 21-year-old big man said.
At 46, Marlou is also glad to be able to join his son on the hardcourt,
"Bilang isang ama na nakakasama yung anak sa laro, tapos iisang team pa, isang malaking achievement para sa akin yon lalo na dating player din ako," Marlou said.
"Maganda na napapaalala ko sa kanya kung ano ang dapat niyang gawin, ano ang tamang decisions at kung anong position ang dapat niyang gawin sa games," the former PBA rookie of the year added.
The two first played together in the league on Aug. 6 against the Rizal, with some sort of a highlight when they attempted an alley-oop although the younger Aquino missed the shot.
"Actually hindi niya (Marlou) na kailangan maglaro pa pero pinagtiyatiyagaan niya para sa akin, para maturuan niya ako kaya napakalaking bagay nito para sa improvement ko."
Marlou is also grateful to Bacoor for the chance to stay in shape while being with his son.
And with the Strikers at 14-3, behind only the Davao Occidental Tigers in the southern division, the only father-and-son tandem in the league are on pace to make the playoffs.
"Maski papaano nakakapagpapawis, saka mahirap din talaga itigil ang basketball eh, hinahanap din ng katawan."
