BAYUGAN CITY – Marvin Lee hit a miraculous halfcourt shot as time expired to push the University of Sto. Tomas past reigning Cesafi champion University of the Visayas, 83-82, in the Kim Lope Asis Mayor’s Cup Basketball Invitational 2017 at the Lope Asis Memorial Gymnasium.
With 1.5 seconds left on the clock, UST gained a glimmer of hope after UV’s Tristan Albina missed both his free-throws.
Lee received the outlet pass and let the ball fly from halfcourt and swished it in. Lee’s shot capped off his 19-point evening.
Jeepy Faundo had 16 points.
It was the first time that UST recruit Cameroon’s Steve Akomo faced off against the team that gave him his first shot here in the country.
The lanky 6-foot-10 forward finished with just six points.
UV led by 13 in the final period after a triple by Cesafi MVP Rey Suerte, who paced the Lancers with 26 points. Albina had 16 points.
