    May 16, 2013

THE Letran Squires continued their winning ways on Thursday in the 19th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament.

Incoming high school senior Ivan Villanueva and Yves Sazon showed the way for the Squires, who waylaid the San Beda-B Red Cubs, 76-58, at the Arellano University gymnasium in Legarda, Manila.

Their efforts enabled the Squires to post their fifth straight win in Group B of the junior division.

Earlier, St. Clare (1-4) won over Fatima University (2-3), 70-46, in a seniors division contest.

Villanueva fired 20 points while Sazon delivered 14 for the Squires, who moved two wins away from earning the top semifinal berth in their bracket.

The Junjie Ablan-coached Squires are in front the unbeaten La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers (4-0), who are also in contention for a semis slot.

The 6-foot-2 Villanueva shot seven points in the first period as the Squires took charge for good, 17-12.
