MARK Yee set a new record for rebounding in the MPBL with 24 as Davao Occidental defeated Pasay, 68-61, on Wednesday night in the Datu Cup.
A former PBA player, Yee made it a double-double with 16 points as the Tigers scored their third straight win and moved up to second place in the Southern Division with a 6-3 card.
Yee’s performance also eclipsed the huge game of Michael Mabulac, who just hours earlier pulled down 21 rebounds as the Laguna Heroes scored a 74-68 win over the powerhouse Manila Stars.
Mabulac beat the record of 20 boards set seven months ago by Gian Abrigo with the Quezon City Capitals.
It was the third straight win by the Heroes, improving to 5-3 to move up to third spot in the Southern Division.
“You can’t count out all teams yet. Wala pa tayo sa halfway stretch ng tournament. Yung iba, nag-peak early, while yung iba naman, lately lang nagpi-peak,” said MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.
“That’s the beauty of our single round robin.”
