MAPUA defeated Ateneo, 89-82, on Sunday to rule the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup juniors division in San Juan.
Clint Escamis had 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Warren Bonifacio added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Red Robins, who outscored the Blue Eaglets, 30-20, in the final period.
Will Gozum contributed 17 points, while Joaqui Gozum had 14 points for Mapua, which clinched the victory on a triple by Brian Lacap.
It was the NCAA juniors titleholders’ second tournament victory in the preseason following its PCABL conquest.
Dave Ildefonso scored 16 points and grabbed eight boards, and Kai Sotto contributed 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Blue Eaglets.
