MAPUA finally scored its breakthrough win in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup, trouncing Arellano, 85-65, on Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Cardinals' frontline was unmatched in the duel, with Warren Bonifacio putting up 15 points and 12 rebounds, as Christian Bunag added a double-double of his own with 14 points and 14 boards.
Denniel Aguirre contributed 13 points and four rebounds, as Noah Lugo got 10 to give coach Randy Alcantara his first victory in the summer tourney after four outings.
Mapua was quick to impose its will down low, jumping on a 25-4 start and rode that streak to come away with the 20-point triumph.
Kent Salado led the Chiefs with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists, while Rence Alcoriza got 13 points and three boards.
Arellano fell to 0-2 in Group A.
