    Maodo Diouf shows way as CEU Scorpions rip St. Joseph to take solo lead in UCBL

    CENTRO Escolar University asserted its mastery over St. Joseph College of Bulacan, 113-77, and seized the top spot in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League Season 3 on Thursday at the Olivarez College in Parañaque City.

    Maodo Diouf shone for the Scorpions with a double-double effort of 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks and three assists.

    Earlier, Jayson Jimenez scattered 13 of his 21 points in the third period as Technological Institute of the Philippines routed Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas, 78-51, for its fourth win in seven matches.

    CEU improved to 6-1, leaving Diliman College and Olivarez College in joint second at 5-1.

    John Rojas added 13 points, five boards and two steals while Pierce Chan contributed 12 markers for the Scorpions, who after trailing 1-6 in the early goings went into full throttle.

    "It's a continuous process for us yung buong season na ito. The objective really is every game is to get better," said TIP coach coach Potit de Vera "If we get to the top four, we have to be better than when we started. In this game, some problems in the past were addressed. I'm happy for that."

    The victory put TIP half-a-game ahead of fifth-running Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas (3-3) in the race for the last semifinals berth.
