MANU Magat hit the go-ahead triple and Aaron Yambao sealed Colegio de San Lorenzo's win over PATTS College of Aeronautics with a swat, 56-53, in Game One of the 8th Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA) men’s basketball finals at the Marikina Sports Complex.
The Griffins remained unbeaten after nine games into the season and moved one win away from the title, thanks to CDSL's surprise hero in Magat.
“He was on the right spot in that situation. He was not supposed to shoot it but he [took the] opportunity to win it for the team,” said CDSL coach Bonnie Garcia.
Jun Gabriel had 11 points to lead the balanced attack of the Griffins, while John Paul Manansala led the Sea Horses with 15 markers.
Manansala connected on a jumper that gave PATTS a 53-51 lead, but Gabriel answered back with his own basket to tie the game at 53 and set the stage for Magat and Yambao's heroics.
After Magat's trey, Manansala tried to send the game into overtime with his own attempt beyond the arc but Yambao came through with the game-saving block.
