MAKATI survived Marikina in a thrilling triple overtime victory, 125-118, to keep its bid alive for the no. 1 seed in Division 1 of the Metro Basketball Tournament Tuesday at the Dapitan Sports Complex.
The hard-earned win by the Skycrappers put them in direct collision with fellow unbeaten team Manila All-Stars on Thursday to determine the top seed in the league’s premier division heading to the semifinals.
Manila and Makati both carry 1-0 slates, while Marikina fell to 0-2 after losing to the All-Stars, 76-74, in the early phase of the qualification round.
The Paranaque Green Berets (1-0) routed Valenzuela Workhorses, 93-67, to arrange a winner-take-all clash with the Mandaluyong Tigers (1-0) to determine the wildcard entry in Division 1 of the tournament for players 16-and-under and presented by the Metro Manila Sports Fest in coordination with the Metro Manila Development Authority under general manager Tim Orbos and the Metro Manila Council.
The Workhorses absorbed their second straight setback.
Also on Tuesday, the Pasig Green City nailed their first win by downing the Las Pinas Home Defenders, 74-64.
The victory put the Green City in a tie with the Malabon Ballers as they dispute the top seeding in Division III of the meet which has PBA legend Alfredo ‘Pido’ Jarencio as commissioner and Globalport team manager Bonnie Tan as tournament director.
