DEFENDING champion Macway Travel Club beat Emilio Aguinaldo College, 92-81, to complete its elimination-round schedule with four wins in six games in the 2016 MBL Open basketball tournament at the EAC Sports Center in Manila.
Macway used two scoring runs bridging the third and fourth quarters to finish off EAC and boost its bid for a semifinal berth in the seven-team tournament. FEU holds a 4-1 card followed by Macway.
American Mike Harry scored 22 points, Dan Natividad added 14, while ex-PBA stars Bonbon Custodio and Larry Rodriguez added 13 and 10, respectively, for Macway.
Rustan Bugarin and Jerome Garcia led the Generals with 18 points apiece.
Jeanu Gano added 11 points for EAC, which has lost two games in a row after sweeping its first three assignments.
Juju Baustista, who averaged 16 points in EAC's three victories against Air Force, San Jose Builders and Jamfy-Secret Spices, was held to only seven points.
Macway led 44-38 at halftime and were in control most of the match.
Philippine Air Force won by forfeiture over Jamfy to improve to 3-2 in a tie with EAC in tournament sponsored by Smart Sports, Ironcon Builders, Star Bread, Dickies Underwear and Gerry's Grill.
