    Former pro Nino Marquez powers Macway past Dolphins in MBL Open

    MACWAY Travel Club brought down Philippine Christian University, 88-84, in an early battle of favorites in the 2016 MBL Open basketball championship at the Rizal Coliseum.

    Nino Marquez, who played for Air21 Express in the PBA, scored 23 points, including eight in the fourth period, as Macway scored its second straight win.

    Lester Reyes added 15 points and Floyd Dedicatoria contributed 14 for Macway.

    Fidel Castro and Ford Ruaya combined for 50 points for PCU, which is looking to return as a regular member of the NCAA with coach Elvis Tolentino at the helm.

    Castro scored 27 for the Dolphins, who led 48-40 at halftime.

    Jarelan Tampus scored 22 points as AMA-Wang's Ballclub beat New San Jose Builders, 93-77.

    Jam Jamito,  Jayson Jordan, Rezalde Angeles and Paul Carpio  provided ample scoring support for AMA-Wang's, which led in all four quarters.

    John Ambulodtoscored 27 points and Angelo Acuzar had 13 for San Jose Builders in the tournament supported by Smart Sports, Ironcon Builders, Star Bread, Dickies Underwear and PRC Couriers.
