MAC Belo sent the game into overtime before Russel Escoto scored the game-winning putback as Far Eastern University defeated National University, 86-84, on Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup in San Juan.
Belo scored 19 points and sank a three-pointer off an assist from Monbert Arong with 0.5 seconds in regulation to tie the game at 72-72.
Escoto finished with 11 markers and scored on a follow-up with 0.1 seconds in overtime to give the Tamaraws their third in four games.
FEU’s victory came after trailing 55-46 at the end of the third quarter.
“We caught up in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t the system that we want. Nag-hero ball sila nung fourth quarter so nag-kanya-kanya,” said FEU coach Nash Racela.
“It was a play designed by coach Josh. That’s exactly what the play that we wanted,” said Racela on the game-tying game in overtime.
Belo actually had a double-double, grabbing 12 rebounds while Mike Tolomia had 19 points for the Tamaraws, who handed the Bulldogs their first loss in four games.
