JAYCEE Marcelino ushered in a new era at Lyceum with a big 70-57 victory over St. Benilde Monday in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.
The cat-quick guard fired 15 points, including the final six points that secured the Pirates' first win in the summer tourney at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
He paired up with Cameroonian big man Mike Nzeusseu, who had himself 12 points and 12 boards, as Lyceum limited St. Benilde to just seven points in the payoff period.
Head coach Topex Robinson also unveiled in the game his new recruits Renzo Navarro, Jerwyn Guinto, and Alvin Baetiong, all of whom were transferees from San Sebastian.
Robi Nayve and Jeremiah Pangalangan paced the Blazers in the losing effort with 12 points each.
Meanwhile, Centro Escolar University rolled past Mapua in a fight-marred 84-65 win.
Cardinals big man Warren Bonifacio kicked Scorpions forward Jordan Intic in the face midway in the fourth period, ensuing the melee which also involved Mapua's Justin Serrano and CEU's Tyron Chan. All four were ejected in the scuffle.
Still, that didn't stop Senegalese bruiser Maodo Malick Diouf from posting 19 points and 23 rebounds to lead CEU to the win.
John Formento added 16 points, and Judel Fuentes got 13 for the Scorpions.
Serrano topped Mapua with 17 points as coach Randy Alcantara started his head coaching gig with the seniors team on the losing end.
