    Lyceum Junior Pirates deal Ateneo Blue Eaglets first loss in Filoil Cup overtime thriller

    LYCEUM stunned Ateneo in overtime, 106-97, on Friday, handing the Blue Eaglets their first loss at the end of the elimination round of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup juniors division.

    John Barba had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead for the Junior Pirates, who ended their Filoil preseason campaign with a 3-2 record.

    Neil Ruiz addedd 17 points, Sean Sandoval had 16 points, while Batang Gilas standout McLaude Guadana had 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists for the Junior Pirates.

    Despite the defeat, the Blue Eaglets topped Group A with a 4-1 card and will face Group B second-seed University of Santo Tomas in the semifinals slated on Wednesday.

    In the first game, National University capped off the elimination round with a 103-97 victory over San Beda.

    Paul Manalang had 21 points on 5-of-12 shooting from three-point land while Cyril Gonzales had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Bullpups, who ended the preliminaries in a tie with Ateneo with a 4-1 win-loss record.

    The Bullpups, however, settled for second spot in Group A and will face NCAA champion and Group B top-seed Mapua in the semifinals.

    Michael Malonzo had 15 points and eight rebounds and Batang Gilas standout Terrence Fortea had 13 points for the Bullpups.
