    Lyceum Junior Pirates dominate Perpetual to stay unbeaten in Freego Cup caging

    MAKKI Santos dominated anew to help Lyceum defeat University of Perpetual Help, 94-83, and tie idle Adamson for the lead in the 9th PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) Freego Cup on Tuesday at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.

    Santos imposed his will inside en route to finishing with 23 points on an impressive 9-of-12 shooting from the field. He also had six boards and one assist to win another Freego Player of the Game award.

    McLaude Guadana and Vincent Cunanan also chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the LA Mumar-coached Lyceum shared the top spot with Adamson due to their identical 4-0 records.

    Meanwhile, reigning UAAP champion National University extended its win streak to four games after cruising past Far Eastern University, 87-76, to improve its record to 4-1.

    The Bullpups were ambushed by the University of the Philippines in the opener of the preseason tournament also sponsored by Smart, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste, Insular Square (Cebu), and New Pioneer Auto Supply (Cebu).

    In other games, Letran hiked its record to 3-2 with a 92-57 drubbing of St. Jude Catholic School and La Salle Greenhills bounced back from a 73-68 loss to Hope Christian High School by crushing San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 103-97, for a 2-1 mark.

    Aside from Santos, La Salle’s Kai Belgica (15 points, 3 boards), Letran’s Rayniel David (17 pts., 5 boards, 2 steals), and NU’s John Clemente (18 pts., 6 boards, 2 steals) were also named Freego player of the game.
