    Lyceum snaps out of two-game MBL losing skid with romp against St. Dominic

    LYCEUM used a strong second-quarter run to bring down St. Dominic College of Asia, 71-59, and stay in contention in the 2014 MBL Open basketball championship at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.

    Joemari Lacastesantos scored 10 of his 15 points and Renzo Tapoc added six points as the Pirates outscored the Red Pikes, 25-8, in a dominant second quarter that turned a close contest into a rout.

    The Intramuros-based Pirates then established several 20-point leads before holding off the Red Pikes' determined comeback in the final quarter. 

    The win enabled the Pirates to end a two-game losing skid and improve to 2-2 in this tournament supported by Smart Sports, Ironcon Builders, Dickies Underwear, PRC Couriers and Zucchero Cafe.

    Lyceum also won over Our Lady of Fatima University befor elosing back-to-back games to Sea Lions and Wang's Ballclub.

    Jerrick Mpoia scattered 11 points and Sherwin Lao added nine points for St. Dominic, which debuted with a 65-52 win over Polytechnic University of the Philippines last April 26.

    But Norvee Monzon, the hero in  St. Dominic's win over PUP with 20 points, was limited to only five by Lyceum's tight defense.

    Quarterscores:  15-18, 40-26, 61-40, 71-59.
