    Lyceum Pirates boost bid for quarterfinals, keep Philippine Under-18 squad winless

    LYCEUM compounded the Philippine Under-18 team’s woes, scoring a 89-67 rout on Monday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

    Joseph Gabayni had 18 points, Dexter Zamora added 16 as the Pirates scored their third win in five outings to occupy third place behind undefeated Far Eastern University (5-0) and San Beda (5-0) in Group B.

    The win also boosted the Pirates’ chances of making it to the quarterfinals with one game left. The top two teams in the three groups as well as the next two best records move to the next phase.

    Andrei Caracut led the Nationals with 23 points but they are still winless in four outings, joining Mapua at the bottom of the Group C standings.

    LPU (89) – Gabayni 18, Zamora 16, Ko 13, Maconocido 10, Bulawan 9, Baltazar 9, Azores 6, Mbida 4, Malabanan 2, Soliman 2, Pamulaklakin 0, Taladua 0, Lacastesantos 0.

    Philippines U18 (67) – Caracut 23, Asilum 12, Yu 9, Tongco 8, Desiderio 7, Go 4, Escoto 3, Subido 1, Rivero 0, Manguera 0, Balanza 0, Armenion 0, San Juan 0.

    Quarterscores: 18-12; 47-26; 69-51; 89-67.
