LYCEUM scored its first win in its last match in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup as it escaped San Sebastian College's endgame surge, 67-66, at The Arena in San Juan on Wednesday.
The Intramuros-based squad ended the tournament on a high note after seven losses.
The Pirates squandered a 16-point half time lead, 47-31, as the Golden Stags went on a 17-4 run, capped by a John Rebollos triple, to move within one, 66-67.
Jaymark Perez had a chance to push San Sebastian ahead with 11.3 seconds left but the rookie failed to execute the final play, dribbling out the clock and handing the victory to Lyceum.
"Matatalo na sana kami doon pero hindi nila na-shoot kaya para nga sa amin ito," said LPU coach Boni Tan.
"We're happy for the win," said Tan. "Nakakapagod din kasi lumaban ng lumaban pero talo. Sabi ko sa mga players mas maganda ang lumaban ng panalo."
Mark Francisco finished with 20 points, while Wison Baltazar and John Azores contributed 13 and 12, respectively, for Lyceum.
Perez and Rebollos each had 14 markers, while and Jovit dela Cruz added 10 for San Sebastian, which suffered its fourth straight loss and ended the tournament with a 2-6 card.
