    Losentes hits stride as Gensan Warriors frustrate Imus home fans with close victory

    IMUS — Leomar Losentes scored 20 points as GenSan Warriors-Golden State College beat Imus Bandera-GLC Truck and Equipment, 79-73, on Saturday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup.

    Losentes hit five triples while Marlon Basco added 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Warriors atoned for an opening loss in the regional league, frustrating the home crowd at the Imus Sports Complex.

    Delmar Mahaling had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors, who roared to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Christopher Masaglang had 12 points and hit a putback with 2:50 left for a 74-64 lead.


      A 9-2 run capped by a three-point play by Paolo Pontejos with 57.7 seconds left cut GenSan’s lead to three points, 76-73. Pontejos, however, fouled Basco, who split his two free throws with 12 seconds left for a 77-73 lead.

      Pontejos had 15 points while Ian Melencio had 11 points for Imus, which remained winless in two games.

      Imus 73 – Pontejos 15, Melencio 11, Gaco 10, Daroya 7, Castro 6, Sollano 5, Paras 5, Tajonera 5, Rivera 3, Munsayac 3, Bragais 2, Bustos 1, Escalambre 0, Alberto 0, Baltazar 0.

      Quarters: 23-14; 36-34; 56-48; 79-73.
