LETRAN point guard Mark Cruz felt they had a win in hand in their opening match in the 2013 FilOil Flying V Pre-Season Premier Cup.

“Sayang,” Cruz sighed after an 81-88 loss to Ateneo on Monday at the Arena in San Juan. “Mananalo na sana kami eh. Pero ganon talaga.”

Still, the point guard, a younger brother of former UP Maroon Marvin and a revelation at the point guard position for the Knights in the last NCAA season, feels it's only a matter of time before the team starts winning.

“Next time mananalo na dahil nagta-trabaho naman kami,” he said.

Cruz noted that aside from adjusting to the system of coach Caloy Garcia, who has been with the team for only two months since taking over from Louie Alas, the Knights themselves are struggling with each other.

"Ang dami pang bago (players) di pa gaano magkakakilala. Medyo kailangan pa namin mag-adjust," said Cruz, who had 18 points, six rebounds and dished out seven of Letran's 12 assists.
