LETRAN pummeled Arellano, 67-55, to take the top spot in the 2018 Milcu Sports Basketball by Got Skills Adidas Summer League at the Trinity University Gym last week.
Allen Mina paced the Knights with a spectacular double-double, finishing with a game-high 22 points, seven of which came from perfect shooting from the free-throw line, along with 11 rebounds.
Letran now holds the top spot with a 5-2 card, while Arellano dropped to 4-2.
Kiefer Cordero added 12 points, two rebounds and four assists for the Knights, while Mark Sangalang had 10 points and five rebounds.
Arellano managed to cut Letran’s lead to one by the end of the second quarter, 32-33, but the Knights made sure they stayed ahead for the entire game in the second half with key plays.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University took a 56-53 overtime win over University of the Philippines.
The Morayta-based Tamaraws outscored the Maroons, 6-3, in the extra session to put an end to the match.
FEU is now sharing the third spot with Arellano at 4-2, while UP is now in eighth place with a 3-2 record.
The Tamaraws flexed their muscles after a 14-13 deadlock, unleashing a 13-6 blitz to pull away early in the first half and take a 27-19 lead. But the Maroons were able to recover and force overtime, 50-50.
Clifford Jopia led the Tamaraws with nine markers and six boards, and Ken Tuffin followed with a total of eight points and 11 rebounds. James Tempra also delivered seven points, five caroms, and gave up an assist.
Pio Longa scored 11 points, and five caroms, followed by Juan Gomez de Liano with 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists for UP.
