CITING differences with management, Budds Reyes has stepped down as head coach of Bacoor Strikers in the ongoing 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Anta Datu Cup.
Sources bared the 56-year-old Reyes and his coaching staff made up of JR Carlos, Tylon Dar Juan, Buboy Mata, Joey Protacio, and Drake Santos have tendered their resignation after not seeing eye-to-eye with the team's head honchos.
"Hindi na maganda ang trato kila coach," one source, who asked for anonimity, told SPIN.ph.
Former Blackwater coach Leo Isaac is poised to take over from Reyes, who had coaching stints at San Beda and Xavier before moving to the MPBL. Isaac is expected to run practice starting on Monday.
Another source bared that Reyes' son, Mikee, who's also the team's starting point guard, is looking for his release "out of respect" for his dad. He hopes to be a free agent in time for the league's trading window, set to open on Monday.
Reyes was included in the team's initial protect 15 list and will therefore not be part of the free agents pool that can be signed by any team for the remainder of the season.
The younger Reyes was mum when asked about the matter.
He is averaging 11.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.6 steals for Bacoor, which currently ranks third in the South Division with its 6-4 record ahead of their game against the Rizal Crusaders on Tuesday at Ynares Center in Antipolo.
