LAS Pinas clinched the solo lead in the South Division of the Metro Basketball Tournament (MBT) seniors competition after notching back-to-back wins over the week.
The Home Defenders, who limped home in the 16-and-under tournament last summer, defeated Taguig, 84-72, and then followed it up with an 87-72 rout of MMDA for a 2-0 record in the meet organized by the Metro Manila Sports Fest under the auspices of the Metro Manila Development Authority.
Just within striking distance of Las Pinas in the same group are Mandaluyong and Paranaque, both with 1-0 records in the tournament which has ‘Mobile App ng Bayan’ Barangay 143 as co-presentor, Synergy 88 as main sponsor, and Spalding as official ball.
Rey Anthony Peralta scored all of his game-high 14 points in the first quarters of the game as Las Pinas outscored Taguig in each of those periods as the Home Defenders notched their first win. Edgar Louie Charcos meanwhile, had 16 of his 22 points in the win over MMDA.
In other games over the week in this 24-and-under tourney also backed by Excellent Noodles, Nature’s Spring Water, 1-Pacman Partylist, Hopewell Sales Corp., Gatorade, Star Bread, Frabelle Foods, Regan Industrial Sales Inc., Glitter.ph, Alcoplus, Primadonna, and Archie’s Bespoke Bar+Grill, Navotas and 16-and-under champion Marikina notched their first win in the meet.
Navotas subdued Valenzuela, 100-96, while Marikina downed San Juan, 66-63. Both games were held at the Navotas Sports Complex.
Also breaking into the win column was Pateros, which turned back Makati, 83-78, for an even 1-1 slate. Makati is winless in three games.
Games are live through the MBT’s Facebook page, Metro Manila Sports Fest, where the league, according to commissioner Alfredo ‘Pido’ Jarencio, has already breached more than 300,000 total views in just five game days.
