LAS Piñas overcame a 16-point deficit and outlasted Quezon City in triple overtime, 150-147, in the National Basketball League-Pilipinas (NBL) Chairman’s Cup 2022 at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
Nano Alvarado showed the way for the Oil Machine with 27 points, including a lay-up that sent the game into a third overtime, before David Sta. Rosa and Buboy Barnedo sealed their first after two games.
Fiery comeback
Sta. Rosa scored 25 points including a basket that broke a 143-143 tie in the third overtime, and Barnedo extended the lead to four on a basket to finish the game with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Las Piñas trailed 88-72 early in the fourth, but went on a comeback capped by a three-pointer by Sta. Rosa that forced overtime, 108-108.
La Union, meanwhile, took the early lead in the team standings with a 99-95 win over Bulacan.
John Patrick Pascua nailed a three with 25.1 seconds remaining for a 97-95 lead which the Paower held to the end.
John Uduba had 25 points and 16 rebounds for La Union.
Andre Montserrat had 25 points, Danny Diocampo 21, and Muntinlupa beat Laguna, 104-96.
