UNIVERSITY of the Visayas got back on the winning track, defeating winless University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 106-53, in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Green Lancers, who bowed to archrival Southwestern University 76-80 last week, bounced back and proved too much for the exhausted Panthers, who were playing their second game in as many nights.
UV scored their third win in four games, while USPF slipped to 0-3 in a tie with the University of Cebu.
John Abad led UV with 24 points, four assists and five steals, while back-up guard Alfred Codilla added 17. Arvie Cabanero had 16 points and nine rebounds, while Rhaffy Octobre chipped in 13 points.
Center Jomari Sollano and wingman Michael Smith each had 10 to lead the Panthers.
The Lancers started to blow the game wide open in the second canto where they uncorked a 14-2 run capped by a slam dunk by import Mike Harry for a 49-23 halftime lead. UV continued the onslaught in the final 20 minutes to become the first team to break the century mark this season.
