    Lady Tamaraws gain thrice-to-beat edge

    Sep 23, 2012

DEFENDING women's champion FEU clinched an outright UAAP Season 75 Finals berth by beating National University, 58-50, on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Allana Lim had 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Tams completed a 14-game sweep of the elimination round.

For achieving the rare feat, the Lady Tams will have a thrice-to-beat edge in the championship round.

Their seventh loss in 14 matches  denied the Lady Bulldogs an outright berth in the step-ladder semifinals. NU will now clash with the Ateneo Lady Eagles in a playoff for the last semis slot, with the winner facing Adamson in the first step-ladder.

La Salle, which finished second in the double-round eliminations, will then take on the winner of the first step-ladder match.

Juniors titleholder NU foiled FEU-Diliman’s bid for an automatic entry in the championship round with an 80-75 victory behind Reggie Morido’s 23-point performance.

The Bullpups and the Baby Tamaraws both finished with identical 13-1 records, but FEU took the No. 1 seeding in the Final Four by virtue of superior quotient.

Over at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan, Prince Martin finished with 18 points as UST turned back Ateneo, 72-64 to clinch the No. 3 seed and arrange a semis meeting with NU.

The fourth-ranked Blue Eaglets take on the Baby Tamaraws in the other Final Four pairing.
