LA Union hopes to finally capture its first National Basketball League-Pilipinas (NBL) crown when it faces Taguig for the Chairman’s Cup title.
La Union Paower eager to get over hump
The PAOwer have twice been the runners-up in the regional homegrown league, finishing second in the 2020 President’s Cup and the 2021 Chairman’s Cup. But La Union gets another shot at the title after sweeping Pampanga in the semifinals this conference.
“This will be our third run for the chip, so will we strike out or get lucky? One thing is sure, this is definitely a testament of the success of our local sports program,” said La Union team governor and the province’s first district Rep. Paolo Ortega.
Game One is scheduled on Wednesday at the Hagonoy Sports Complex in Taguig before the PAOwer play at home on Saturday in San Juan, La Union.
The PAOwer made it to the playoffs by taking the fourth spot in the eliminations with a 6-2 win-loss record.
Jap Pambid and Erven Silverie have been showing the way for the PAOwer with their all-around play, while also getting ample support from Billy Boado and John Patrick Pascua.
Ortega said the final series will be tough since he see similarities with the Generals with his team.
“The Generals are somewhat a mirror of La Union PAOwer – disciplined and tenacious. It will be an honor to compete with them and represent the province of La Union,” said Ortega.
