LA Salle outdueled a weary San Beda side, 94-85, to emerge as the only unbeaten team in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup on Saturday night at The Arena in San Juan.
The Green Archers engaged the Red Lions in a see-saw shootout before breaking away down the stretch in the anticipated match that lived up to its billing to roll to their fourth straight win.
Ben Mbala and Jeron Teng showed the way for the Green Archers, who pounced on a Red Lions side that played its third match in as many days to deal their victims their first loss.
“We all know every year, San Beda is a good team, so syempre we wanted this to be our statement game,” Teng said.
Mbala scattered 26 points, 16 boards, four blocks, and two steals, and scored on a putback slam that highlighted a late run in the last three minutes where they gained enough separation to prevail.
Teng also registered a double-double of 23 points and 10 boards along with six assists, two steals, and one block, while Jolo Go and Andrei Caracut added 19 and 13 markers, respectively, as the duo combined for all of the Arcehrs’ eight three-pointers.
AC Soberano sustained his sizzling play from outside, knocking down six triples to finish with a team-high 18 points, the same output as Davon Potts, who also had seven boards and four assists that went for naught.
The Archers were still behind by two points entering the fourth, but outscored the Red Lions , 34-23, in the payoff period to secure the win.
